"Sounkyou"
Tano is filled with various points of scenic beauty that should not be passed by too fast. One such point is the bridge on the main route 28 connecting Nichinan and Takaoka, immediately after the "Michi no Eki" rest area. The bridge is constructed in a V-shape to fit the valley it passes through. At 310m long and 40m high, the bridge offers a beautiful view of the green mountains and valley below. Sounkyou

"Wanitsuka Mountain Television Tower"
(Prefecture Nature Park)
*The mountain road leading to this site is under construction and impassable for the time being. Hiking to the summit is possible but not advised as trails are unstable.

Wanitsuka Mountain Television Tower

This graceful mountain rising on the southern edge of town is a symbol of pride for the Tano townspeople. It's such a part of the local people's hearts that even the Tano Jr. High School anthem begins by signing an ode to Wanitsuka's pristine beauty.
Atop Wanitsuka's summit, at 1,118m, are a group of immense NHK television towers that service the greater Miyazaki area. Whether these towers are considered technological wonders or a mere eyesore, that best be left to ones own judgment. However, they do serve as a convenient marker to pick out Mt. Wanitsuka amongst the backdrop of mountains surrounding Tano. And if you gaze out any southward facing window in Tano, there looms Wanitsuka, with its prominent towers and enduring, calming presence.
From the summit on a clear day, one can view as far as Sakurajima (Kagoshima Prefecture's famous volcano), Shibushi Bay, Kirishima Basin, and Miyazaki City. Also, favorable winds and location make Wanitsuka a popular base point for paragliders. The summit is most conveniently reached by car. Follow the signs towards "Ikoi no Hiroba" campgrounds, and there you can find the road leading to the top.

Seikan Waterfalls can be found 380m off the road leading up to Wanitsuka's summit. These crystal-clear falls, 20m high and 8m wide, are surrounded in thick greenery, creating a magnificent view.

"Wanitsuka Ikoi no Hiroba"
*‘Wanitsuka Ikoi no Hiroba’ Notification of closure

Due to typhoon damage in 2006:walking, swimming, camping, tennis, and other recreation activities within ‘Wanitsuka Ikoi no Hiroba’ including the climbing of Wanitsuka mountain, are not possible.
In order to prevent further hazards resulting from a disaster, tree replanting and slope stabilization are now in progress. As construction vehicles are passing through this area, 'Wanitsuka Ikoi no Hiroba' is closed to the general public. The vicinity around the Wanitsuka mountain hiking trail entrance is also under construction so access to the mountain is prohibited.
The prefectural road from Tano train station to the summit of Wanitsuka mountain is also under reconstruction. Vehicles are unable to use the road from Ikoi no Hiroba to the mountain summit.
We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your cooperation and understanding.
